Natalia & Chase were recently named "Celebrity Singers" - way to go, girls! |
Room 20 has been quite busy at the end of May! In reading, we've been working hard to use our inferring skills as we continue reading The Lightning Thief together. We're enjoying the funny chapter titles, Rick Riordan's use of figurative language, and the suspense that is building as the story continues. Stay tuned! In writing, we've been working on lots of poetry! To write haikus, we listened to nature sounds - rain forest, beach, and waterfall! We tried to write down every teeny tiny sight, smell, sound, taste, or feel that we could imagine in each setting. Then, we chose small, single topics from our lists to write focused haikus. We also wrote some small moment haikus about our school year together. We had a fun (and nostalgic!) time thinking back on the funny, happy, silly, and awesome small moments we had together this year.
In math, we've been putting our logic and geometry skills together to work on solving tessellation puzzles. In science, we just started our magnetism and electricity unit. So far, we have learned that magnets stick to iron and can be attracted to or repelled from other magnets. We also experimented with creating "temporary magnets." This is when an iron or steel object behaves like a magnet when it's touching one. Check out the pictures of our temporary magnet sculptures below! We're very excited to light a light bulb with our science teams next week. We'll keep you posted!
Tomorrow is Tie Dye Tuesday. Be on the lookout for our awesome shirts as well as important instructions for how to wash / care for tie dye shirts!
Looking forward to a busy and productive last week of May!
