First Week of School!

Welcome to our Room 20 blog!

What we've been up to:
Our first week of school finished up today.  We had an amazing first week together and already did a lot of work!  We are a school family and Room 20 is our "home away from home"!  We decided that we want our home to feel cozy, happy, welcoming, and exciting.  We came up with some rules to help us feel that way.  We started working with numbers in math, creating name collection boxes and learning about place value.  We learned that mistakes make us smarter, so it's not so scary to mess up!  We started learning about weather.  We learned that reading is thinking and enjoyed a few fun read aloud books.  We are writing brand new, exciting personal narratives to tell the stories of our lives!  We had a retirement party to retire two useless words, "I CAN'T," from our vocabularies!  We are ready to JUST KEEP SWIMMING!

Reminders / What's coming up:
We will be making terrariums as part of our weather unit.  Please send in a plastic or glass jar with a lid by Friday, 9/20.  It should be 6-10 in tall and have a wide mouth for your child's hand to fit into.  If you can't find one, a 2 liter soda bottle should work.  We can cut off the top and use plastic wrap for a lid.

Parent Orientation afternoon will be held on Wednesday, 9/11 at 3-4 PM.  There will be two 30 minute sessions.  I can answer more questions at the end of the second session.  If you can't make it, I will send home all of the materials with your child the next day.

School pictures will be taken on Thursday, 9/19.

Have a wonderful weekend - just keep swimming!
