Check out this cool video on Canada, "Canada Shared by Canadians."
Even with two half days, we crunched a lot into this past week! We wrapped up our study of heredity and adaptations and we had our test on Thursday. Next week, Mrs. Adams will give out an assignment for extra credit heredity posters for anybody that wants extra points! We also wrapped up our study of measurement and graphing including area and perimeter. We did some team open responses and got a chance to see lots of different, but equally great ways of explaining our thinking on a math open response including showing your calculations and drawing a picture! We took our test on Friday - it was super challenging! In social studies, we've started our study of Canada. We watched a really interesting YouTube video (above) that showed us the many different sides of Canada including varied climates and landscapes. Canada is more than just snow, ice, and hockey! We learned about the history of Canada's maple leaf flag, how France and England both wanted control of Canada, and we learned where the 10 provinces and 3 territories are located in addition to important cities. We just barely started The Lightning Thief and will continue more next week. Our new Greek mythology dictionaries are filled with the Greek gods, goddesses, creatures, and mythological places that are important to helping us understand our new read aloud book! We practiced using brand new Chromebooks to see what our PARCC test will look like next week. We were excited to get to use such cool new computers and we're ready to show our best reading and writing skills next week! Last but not least, we are super excited for our newest project, Rock Poetry. As part of our poetry unit, we will be reading and writing lots of poems. Song lyrics are often poems, too! Remember, song lyrics and the permission slip are due on Stay tuned for more of what we'll be doing next week!
What's coming up:
- Check out the updated calendar to the right of upcoming dates. Lots of new events coming up in the next few months, so stay tuned!
- If you have any paint samples and wouldn't mind sending them in, we'd really appreciate them! Any size / colors are fine.
- We're also running out of our initial supply of tissues for the year. Any donations of tissues are certainly welcome. Our noses thank you!
- Students' snack time on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday may be a little later than normal. A hearty breakfast on those mornings would be most satisfying on those days!
